Winter Snowshoe Hikes is going
on right now up until April. Crater Lake offers Free,
Ranger-Guided Snowshoe Hikes every Saturday & Sunday at 1:00
p.m. The hikes cover a mile of moderately difficult terrain
through forest, meadows and along the crater's rim, and last for
about 90 minutes. This is so much fun and great
exercise. If you don't have snowshoes, they will provide
them free of charge, so you don't have any excuse. If we can do
it, so can you. Try it, you'll like it! You do have
to make a reservation, so call them as soon as possible at:

This Year is starting out with a lot
of changes. We have the first African-American president
of the United States, "Barack Obama". At the
same time that this election was going on, Shady Cove was
electing a new Mayor and 2 Councilors. Ruth Keith decided
not to run again this year, for Mayor. She will truly be
missed, and her legacy will always be for getting everyone off
FEMA. Thank You Ruth Keith. The two candidates that ran
for Mayor were Rick Mori and Ron Holthusen. Ron Holthusen
won the Mayor position. The final results are listed
below.
Alison Curtis and Lois Holland stepped down
from their Council positions. There were 4 Candidates
running for the 2 seats. They were Forrest (Bud )Rees, Judy

p.m. at the Edgewater Convention Center-Visitors are always

Wednesday, January 21, 2009- The Greater
Shady Cove Boosters will be changing the flags that are placed at
all businesses located in Shady Cove. Meet at the Upper Rogue
Moose Lodge at 1:30.
Tuesday, January 27, 2009- Neighborhood Watch will meet at
7:00 in the City Chambers. Check out what the Neighborhood
Watch is all about.
Right now, I am not sure on the date for the Spaghetti
Fundraiser. As soon as I receive the information, I will get it
posted.
OREGON'S 150TH ANNIVERSARY IS ALSO ON
FEBRUARY 14TH. The Shady Cove Business Association
will be sponsoring a food drive.
It's time to warm up from the Winter cold with
some of the best Chili in the county. The Upper Rogue Community
Center is holding the Chili Cook Off and Dessert Auction on February 28th at 5:30.
The "Greater
Shady Cove Boosters", will be entering the competition
this year, along with the regulars. A few of the participants
last year were the Shady
Cove Fire Dept., Washington
Mutual Bank, and Premier
West Bank. This is very competitive, so the Chili is not
just any Chili. The
cost is $5.00 per person, or $11.00 per family. For more

Citizen of the Year Award
Special
congratulations to Peggy Honingford, owner of Bargains on the
Rogue, for receiving the 2008 Citizen of the Year Award.The award recognized her stewardship that enabled the
development of the Shady Cove Merchants Association which is now
known as the Shady Cove Business Association.The group has been involved in many community activities
over the past year to bring visitors to Shady Cove and to help
our local businesses.Kudos to Peggy and to our local businesses for everything
they do to help keep our economy going.

The Rogue Sportsmen & Guide Association, along with the
Greater
Shady Cove Boosters and the City of Shady
Cove, sponsor the "River
Clean-up". Shady Cove takes great pride in keeping the Rogue
River beautiful for everyone to enjoy. The Rogue Sportsmen &
Guide Association provide drift boats and rafts to use for this event
every year. If you would like to volunteer, you may call the City
Hall to find out who is in charge of coordinating this event this year.
The date for the Annual "Easter Egg Hunt" is set
for Saturday, April 11th at the Shady Cove
Elementary School. Over 500 dozen eggs will be colored and
hidden. This event is sponsored by the Masonic
Lodge. The hunt starts at 10:00 SHARP!

The Quilters Buddie is
going to be having beginning quilting classes on April 11 &
April 18th from 10-4:00. The cost is $20.00 per
class. Come and join the fun and learn something new. For

course, after all the April rain, we have something really nice to look
forward to, Cinco de Mayo! There are many wonderful Mexican

City Wide Clean Up
Another event that is very important to Shady
Cove, is the Wildflower Show. If you have never been, make
sure that you check it out. They have over 200 live
specimens, many of which you may have seen hiking (wondering if
they were poisonous or just pretty)! The 28th Annual
Wildflower Show is scheduled for May 2nd and 3rd from 10:00-4:00
at the Shady Cove Middle School Gymnasium. The donations
from the Wildflower Show are used to purchase Medical Equipment
for the Shady
Cove Fire Department. The Upper Rogue Artists are proud to
display their artwork for sale at this event. The Material
Girls make wonderful quilts to sell and raffle off.
The 2nd Annual Thrifty
Fashion Show and Tea will be taking place on Saturday,
May 9th at 2:00.This event will be held at the Shady Cove Gym.Kids buy outfits at the local thrift stores and then
model them.The
audience enjoys the fashion show while having tea and cookies
served to them by the students.There is no admission charge but donations are accepted.
Local business sponsor tables for $25.00,
or $35.00 each.The
difference in the price of the sponsorship is for the kids that
can not even afford to purchase items at the Thrift Stores.
All the tables are decorated by the
students.Each table
has the sponsor’s business cards, and items pertaining to
their business on the table.All sponsors are included in the advertising, as well.They are listed in the program for everyone to take home.

Don't forget Mom...Mother's Day is
May 10th this year. For all that she has done for you
through the years, this is your day to show her how
"Special' she is. Even something as simple like a
card will brighten her day.
The Citywide Yard Sale on May 15th & 16th. This is where you can
clean out your closets, garages and get ready for summer. Don't
sleep in for this event, because your neighbor will get your
treasure. Remember, "Another man's junk is someone else's treasure".
The Shady Cove Business Association will also be having a sidewalk sale.
Stroll through the shops Don't miss coming to Shady Cove and finding just what you have been
looking for.
For those of you that thought that you had treasures, and found out
differently, Shady Cove decided to organize the Citywide Clean-up, which
will be held of May 22nd & 23rd, sponsored by the City of Shady
Cove. This event is for Shady Cove
residents, only! You will need a ticket to get into this event,
which were included in this month's sewer bill. If you did not get
a ticket, please contact the City Hall. Their number is listed

thereby helping to cleanup the community. Bob Miller, Chief of the
Shady Cove Fire Department, has been gracious enough

is having our "1st Annual Tie Days for Dad" on
Father's Day Weekend. Come and join the fun and make sure that you
wear your "Best" tie.
Look for the Tie Tree located at Highway 62 and Old Ferry Road.
Father's Day is on the 21st this year, and, yes that is a Sunday, as
usual! Give your dad something that he will never forget! A
trip down the river in a drift boat, or raft is the experience of a
lifetime. You can even just take him fishing, hiking, or camping.
Memories are made one day at a time.

4th of July Celebration
The Shady Cove Fire Department
will be participating in the Eagle Point July 4th Parade this year.
Go out and give them your support! Shady Cove
has an ordinance prohibiting fireworks in the city.
Over the 4th of July weekend, the Shady Cove
Business Association will be "Celebrating America in Shady Cove"
by having an Open House at all the stores. The stores will
all be decorated with a 4th of July theme.
The City of
Shady Cove would like to wish everyone a safe and sane 4th of July.
Crater Lake, Oregon's only National Park is waiving the
entrance fees for July 18th and 19. It is
the National parks Service's way of getting people connected
with all the attractions that the park has to offer. If

August is a very busy time of the year in Shady

The annual Rogue River clean up for
August is going to be on August 1st. River guides will be paired up with

This year we will not be having the SPAM® Parade, we will instead be
having the "Dog Daze of Summer" Pet Parade. Dogs and
other loveable pets, including people, are invited to stroll in costume
down the heart of Shady Cove, paralleling Hwy. 62, from Premier West
Bank south to Subway.
Locals are rolling up their sleeves for a “grass
roots” revival down the City of Shady Cove’s “Main Street”
paralleling Veterans Memorial Highway 62.This summer event has relocated to the heart of Shady Cove.

Shady
Cove Fire Dept will be holding their Annual "Yard
Sale" on Saturday, September 26th. You say
that you didn't make to last years? Then you have
really missed out. Get there early and come back
later...Truckloads and truckloads of items were generous donated
by people right here in our community, their hearts opened up
wide! This year, the proceeds will be used to purchase a
heart defibrillator. Thank you everyone for helping
us protect you with more state of the art equipment.

Contest
Last year, the Shady Cove Business
Association held the 1
Annual Scarecrow contest in Shady Cove. The merchants
decorated Scarecrows all around town, and customers voted on
them. It really got everyone in the spirit of Fall.
There are a lot of talented and creative merchants in Shady
Cove. The 2nd Annual Scarecrow contest will start on October
1st and the votes will be turned in October 25th.
The winner will receive gift basket full of all kinds of
goodies.

The
Material Girls Quilt Show will be held at the Shady Cove School on
November 7th and 8th from 10:00-4:00. At the show you will have a
chance to win a beautiful "Opportunity Quilt". This
quilt is made once a year and raffled off at this event. Half of
the proceeds will go to a deserving charity in Jackson
County. All year long, the Material Girls are providing
quilts for newborns, cancer patients, and the seriously ill. Show
your support for all that they do, by attending this event. Please

4th Annual "Christmas in the Village " is right around

are set for Friday December 11th & 12th
This year, the Shady Cove Business Association will be having a
tree lighting ceremony at on the corner of Chaparral and
Highway 62 on Friday December 11th at 6:00. Hot
chocolate and cookies will be served to everyone to keep them
nice and toasty.
The
Upper
Rogue
Community Center
will be hosting a Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, December
12th,from 10:00-4:00. Tables are
available for $10.00. The community center is located at
22465 Highway 62 in Shady Cove, between the City Hall and the
Shady Cove Library. To reserve a table or for more
information, call 878-2702. For your
convenience the Thrift Store will also be open!
Shady
Cove Fire Department will be having a Children's
Christmas Party for children of all ages again this year.
Santa will be there to have pictures taken of your child for
FREE. Last year, there were table’s set-up for
cookie decorating and Christmas crafts. Each child
will be given a stocking consisting of fruit, candy, a coloring
book and stuffed animals. Every family was given a fir
seedling donated by ODF. Refreshments were served to the adults. The
event was held at the Shady Cove Fire Dept., but because of the
enormous response, this year event will be held at the Shady
Cove
School Gym. The event starts on December
12th at 4:00 and ends at 7:00
Let's

Cove Fire Department Support Group volunteers who made this
event possible.
